For the 19th day of advent, Sonya Bryson, managing director for commercial lines at RSA, discusses the integration of NIG and her three-strong christmas wishlist
1. What was your insurance industry highlight of 2024?
My highlight is a pretty obvious one – RSA’s acquisition of NIG and the coming together of two hugely complimentary businesses.
From the moment the acquisition was announced, there’s been excitement and anticipation from both colleagues and brokers alike – all keen to be part of the journey to transform this business.
We’ve completed a large part of the integration already, with more plans in the pipeline to demonstrate why RSA and NIG really are ‘better together’.
2. What is your Christmas message for your insurance colleagues?
To my colleagues at RSA, NIG and Intact, have a great Christmas and a well-deserved break! Amid significant change this year, we’re heading into 2025 with a renewed senses of positive momentum to complete the migration.
To our brokers, thank you for your continued support during our transition. We genuinely appreciate it and I can reassure you, our continued focus is building on some solid foundations and consistently delivering solutions for you and for your clients.
3. What do you hope to find under the industry’s Christmas tree for 2025?
There are several things on my wish list, but I’ll try to narrow it down to my top three!
A period of stability following the significant regulatory changes we’ve seen recently would be most welcome. Though these changes are fundamentally important for great customer outcomes, I’d like to focus more attention on innovation and growth to meet customers needs in a different way.
I hope we can accelerate our efforts toward climate resilience, both in mitigating environmental risks and promoting sustainable practices. Finally, I want to ensure we are attracting and retaining diverse talent. This will bring different perspectives to our industry and help reflect the communities we serve.
On a personal note, I’d love to see RSA win the Insurance Times award for Commercial Lines Insurer of the Year next year. We’ve got some work to do, but we’re entirely focused to achieve the ambition!
