The move comes after research revealed risk-related concerns regarding beach huts and chalets
Specialist insurance provider Compass has launched a new policy offering cover for beach huts and chalets.
The policy will cover risks such as damage incurred because of storms, floods, fire, theft and malicious damage.
Features include no excess needing to be paid should a claim arise, an automatic 20% rebuild cost for contents cover, a 10% discount for members of beach hut associations and cover for loss of rent and license fees in the event of damage to a hut.
“At Compass, we’re aware of how demand for beach huts has grown throughout the UK, especially in prime seaside locations such as east Sussex, Yorkshire, Dorset and Cornwall,” Compass managing director Karen Stacey said.
“Beach huts are not just somewhere to enjoy sunny days with friends and family, they are also a great investment, which means protecting them is paramount.”
Research backing
The launch of the policy follows research by Compass revealing that 29% of 2,000 adults were interested in owning a beach hut in the UK.

Out of the respondents, 37% who want to purchase a beach hut said pricing was the most significant consideration and 22% expressed concerns about theft or damage when they are unoccupied.
The research was conducted by strategic insight agency Opinium on behalf of Compass during February this year.
Stacey said Compass introduced the new policy to “ensure that should anyone experience damage to their beach hut, help is at hand to get their property repaired and restored as soon as possible.”
“We currently have 164 resort locations listed across the UK, while we also take note of any Resort Council and Beach Hut Association membership when quoting a policy,” she added.
“By taking out suitable insurance, beach hut and beach chalet owners will be covered in the unfortunate event of flood, storm or sea damage, as well as theft or vandalism.”
