Fidelis MGU has announced several new promotions as its looks to strengthen its underwriting team.

In a statement released today (29 August 2023) the (re)insurer said it had made three senior executive appointments, including two in the UK.

This included Michael Davern, who has been promoted to the role of UK chief underwriting officer.

Davern began his career in the industry at Lane Clark and Peacock actuarial consultancy in 2003 before becoming the underwriting manager at Catlin Syndicate.

He joined Fidelis in 2020 as a senior underwriter and was most recently the firm’s UK deputy chief underwriting officer.

With Davern now receiving another promotion, Matthew Bellamy will take over his former role.

He began his career in the industry at Amlin as a US property treaty underwriter before moving to Acappella Syndicate 2014, where he held multiple senior underwriting roles.

He joined Fidelis in 2019 as a senior underwriter.

Other appointment

Meanwhile, Richard Coulson has been appointed as the group’s new deputy chief underwriting officer.

Coulson joined Fidelis in 2015 as head of speciality and has since held multiple executive positions at the company.

This includes serving as the UK chief underwriting officer.

In his new role, he will assist with the management of Fidelis’ global underwriting portfolio across all lines of business.
