’The expansion provides further opportunity for us to benefit from a broader talent pool,’ says chief executive

The FCA has officially expanded its Leeds footprint as it looks to boost its headcount in the city.

The regulator opened its office in Queen Street in September 2022 and currently employs over 300 staff.

In August 2024, the FCA said it wanted to increase the office’s floor space to add a further 100 of its workforce there.

Today (17 January 2025), it confirmed that it had opened an additional 5,000 square feet of floor space at its office.

Nikhil Rathi, chief executive at the FCA, said: “I’m delighted to open the new floor here in Leeds today.

“The expansion provides further opportunity for us to benefit from a broader talent pool, offering different perspectives and experiences, meaning we can better represent the communities we serve.”

Council’s view

Rathi was joined by a range of guests, including Beth Russell, second permanent secretary to the Treasury, as well as Leeds City Council’s chief executive Ed Whiting.

Sebastian Walsh, the Bank of England’s head of Leeds, and Felix Kumi-Ampofo, director of inclusive economy, skills and culture from West Yorkshire Combined Authority, also made appearances.

Whiting said: “Leeds is rapidly establishing itself as a leading hub for finance and technology.

“Our vibrant city is a beacon of diversity and innovation, making it one of the most dynamic and exciting cities in the UK.

“I’m delighted to see the FCA’s commitment to enhancing our city’s growth and influence and I look forward to a successful future together.”
