Insurance Times provides some tips to gain an edge on fellow managers as the season ticks into the final stretch
Gameweek 28 (GW28) begins on Saturday (7 March 2025) morning with Nottingham Forest’s visit to the Etihad to play Manchester City, and also marks the start of the final stretch for the 2024/25 Premier League season, with only 10 games left to play for each team.
The Insurance Times Fantasy Football League is also entering its closing stages, with the top managers having firmly established themselves in the top 10. Nothing is written in stone, however, and there is still plenty of time for managers close to the top to work their way into the heady heights of the table.
In the top spots, for example, Hiscox Europe’s head of data Bernardo Gomes has retained first, but is being chased down by Ian Penfold of Milliman LLP, who is only two points behind.

Triple threat
GW28 presents an opportunity for managers to shoot up the table, with in-form attacking teams all playing bottom three teams.
Liverpool are playing rock bottom Southampton, for example, so loading up on assets such as Mohammad Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold could present a strong strategy. The only worry here is that this game comes sandwiched between important Champions League games for Liverpool, with the tie on a knife edge after a cagey game in Paris against PSG this week.
Chelsea are also playing Leicester City and present a strong opportunity for points, with talisman Cole Palmer usually effective against weaker opposition and players such as Marc Cucurella and Pedro Neto in good form.
As a bit of a differential, Crystal Palace have also been in strong form and have drawn struggling Ipswich, with attacking wingback Daniel Munoz and Eddie Nketiah, who is likely to step in for the injured Jean-Phillipe Mateta, interesting differential options to gain an edge on fellow managers.
