A recruitment process for his successor is currently underway
James Burge is leaving Allianz to take up a new role at Hiscox.
Burge, who has spent the last 24 years at Allianz, will exit the insurer in January 2025.
He is set to take up a claims-related position at Hiscox.
Steve Parry, group claims director at Hiscox, told Insurance Times: “Burge will be a great addition to our claims function – not only due to his vast expertise in transforming counter fraud capabilities, but also thanks to his passion for tackling insurance fraud which remains an important industry issue.
”We look forward to welcoming him to Hiscox in due course.”
Experience
Burge joined Allianz in 2000 as a motor underwriter and ended up holding a range of senior underwriting roles with the business.

He most recently served as the head of counter fraud at Allianz Commercial, a position he has held since 2018.

An Allianz spokesperson said: “Burge joined Allianz in 2000 as a motor underwriter before progressing to other roles within the company in a technical underwriting capacity.
“In 2018, he was appointed head of counter fraud and has successfully led teams in the fight against fraud.
“We wish James all the best for the future.”
His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
