UK GI managing director Rob Townend to leave the business
Aviva has announced a major managament reshuffle today, with Gareth Hemming taking over the personal lines arm of the UK GI business and Patrick Tiernan heading up the commercial side.
UK GI managing director Rob Townend will be stepping down from his role at the end of the year, Aviva also announced.
The changes are part of the strategy unveiled by new Aviva chief executive Maurice Tulloch in June.
Then, he said the UK GI and Life businesses would revert to being managed separately, with Colm Holmes appointed as chief executive of the GI business.
Phil Bayles takes on the role of chief distribution officer, including broking and strategic partners.
Tiernan, as managing director of commercial lines, will oversee global corporate and speciality and SME business.
Owen Morris becomes chief underwriting and data officer, while Blair Turnbull takes over the role of chief digital officer. Andrew Morrish will continue as UK GI claims director.
Aviva veteran departs
Townend has been with the business for 23 years, and will stay on to help Holmes with the restructuring, Aviva said.
Commenting on Townend’s departure, Holmes said: “I would like to personally thank Rob Townend for the contribution he has made to Aviva over many years.
”His skill and experience have helped transform our general insurance business and his tireless campaigning on personal injury reform, to address the compensation culture, has even helped change the law in the UK.
”Rob and I will continue to work closely together over the next few months and I wish him all the best for the future.”
