Both of the new appointments are ‘highly respected, recognised leaders and will enhance our organisation’s operations’, says chief operating officer
Global professional services firm Aon has bolstered its UK leadership team, with Katy Whelan taking the reigns as its new London chief operating officer (COO).
Whelan, who has more than 15 years of experience, joined the firm on 17 January 2022. Previously, she led operational improvement projects as COO of the corporate finance division at Deutsche Bank.
Prior to joining Aon, Whelan also spent more than a decade in client-facing roles at KPMG and three investment banks, including Switzerland-based UBS.
In her new role, Whelan will focus on scaling Aon’s operational infrastructure and supporting the delivery of Aon United - the firm’s internal name for its culture - across its London client base.
Strong track records
Alongside Whelan is Charles Stewart, who will join Aon’s team in early April 2022 as the head of strategy, planning and implementation at Aon Business Services (ABS) UK.
Stewart joins the firm following a 25-year tenure at Willis Towers Watson (WTW), where he most recently served as Great Britain head of strategy and planning. He was also chief of staff for the GB chief executive.
AT WTW, Stewart undertook several strategic reviews, alongside designing and managing the implementation of numerous key organisational change programmes.
Both hires are based in London and will report to Nathan Shanaghy, Aon UK COO and head of strategy for ABS.
Shanaghy said: “As Aon continues to build innovative new solutions in 2022, I am delighted to welcome Katy and Charles to the team.
“Their depth of expertise and strong track record in their respective sectors will provide great value to our clients.
“Both are highly respected, recognised leaders and will enhance our organisation’s operations, helping us to shape better decisions for our clients for years to come.”
