Tiner heads up a new buy-up outfit.
So John Tiner is back (or as The Sun’s excitable financial pages put it: “Tiner’s mine!”).
The former FSA boss is to become chief executive of Resolution, a new venture set up by entrepreneur Clive Cowdery.
Resolution, which is aiming for a £1bn stock market flotation in November, will buy up struggling insurers, banks and fund managers and knock them into shape.
It doesn’t take a genius to understand why Tiner was an ideal candidate for the job, given his job as chief regulator of insurers, banks and fund managers.
And full marks to Cowdery for his timing. Given the gloom in the financial services sector, there should be some good deals to be had.
