David Ward pledges to fight on for lower premiums in city

Bradford East MP David Ward

Bradford East MP David Ward pledged continue his drive to tackle the high cost of car premiums in the city after meeting with the ABI today.

The Liberal Democrat MP conducted research into the cost of car insurance in the Yorkshire city in 2011 and met with ABI officials as he prepares to publish an update on the issue.

Speaking after the meeting, Ward said: “There are many reasons why car insurance premiums tend to be more expensive in Bradford from the high number of whiplash claims, the high number of uninsured drivers, car thefts and the number of accidents involving younger drivers.

“There is no one solution and it will mean tackling a number of troubling areas, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“The Government has listened and has taken action with changes to how claims are handled, such as banning referral fees from April this year which has helped reduce average car insurance premiums by about ten per cent nationally.”

However, Ward stressed that there was still much more to do as the price of insurance was “still far too high” and pledged to continue to lobby the government and work with organisations like the ABI for comprehensive changes to make car insurance more affordable for his constituents.
