Initiative aims to help '30% of the population' without internet access

Aggregator Moneyextra has launched a call centre for customers enquiring about car insurance. The centre has been up and running since August, but a full launch will take place this month.

Head of insurance Peter Gerrard said: “It will help people who do not have access to the internet. When I last looked, that was around 30% of the population. Customers want to talk to a human being – that is clear to us. Throughout the whole quote process, there is a phone helpline.”

Gerrard said the ambition was for Moneyextra to grab market share and compete with the big players, such as Gocompare and Moneysupermarket.

A planned TV campaign will help push forward the brand, he said.
