Rising star William Buick agrees two-year sponsorship deal with Markel International
Flat jockey William Buick has signed a two-year sponsorship agreement with insurer Markel International.
The deal will see Buick wear the Markel name on his riding clothes and act as an ambassador for the company and all its underwriting divisions.
Following its sponsorship of National Hunt jockey Sam Thomas, winner of the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup, Markel International said it was keen to enlist the support of one of the leading flat-racing names.
Buick, 21, rode his first winner at Salisbury in September 2006 and within a year had won the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot on Dark Missile.
Markel International president and chief operating officer William Stovin said: “We are thrilled to have such a gifted sportsperson carrying the Markel name and helping to promote our worldwide brand. We could not have a better public face for our company and look forward to William’s continued international success. Together with Sam Thomas, William provides the vigour, versatility and winning qualities that reflect Markel as an organisation.
Buick said: “Markel is a distinguished brand with a long history and a growing reputation in international insurance markets, so I was delighted to be asked to represent the company and wear the Markel name on race tracks in this country and overseas.”
