An international claims conference is to be held in Dublin during September in an effort to improve communication between global marine claims practitioners.
Supported by the IUA, the International Marine Claims Conference 2004 aims to initiate closer links between hull and cargo claims professionals worldwide, said the IUA.
Conference organiser and soon to be head of technical training and development at Xchanging Charlotte Warr, said there is a strong desire in the London market to increase international co-operation.
“Within individual markets, especially London, claims practitioners habitually maintain close communications. Despite being competitors, in a subscription market we remain inextricably linked together and also enjoy the luxury of being concentrated in a small geographical area.
“Unfortunately, we are rarely, if at all, able to maintain such close connections with our colleagues in other international markets. As a result it is often frustratingly difficult to obtain even basic information on claims and still more tricky to deal with any subsequent issues that may arise.”
Delegates will include claims practitioners, underwriters, P&I Club officers, average adjusters, surveyors and lawyers.
The focus of the event will be on hull business with cargo planned to take centre stage at the next conference.
The event is set to take place between 29 September and 1 October. Further information is available from Meeting Point International.
