Latest broker sign-up takes FarmWeb to Northern Ireland

Shropshire insurance broker Longmynd Insurance has joined FarmWeb, giving the agricultural broking group access to Northern Ireland for the first time thorugh Longmyd’s network of brokers there.

Longmynd was founded in 1989 by proprietor Robert Oakley. Over the past 10 years the company has established a large farm account in Northern Ireland via a panel of brokers. It also has clients in Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Cheshire and North Wales.

Oakley said: “Over the past year we have been carrying out a review of the products and services we provide to our farming clients and brokers. The decision to become FarmWeb members comes as a direct result of this.”

“In the current market, we were attracted to FarmWeb because it combines flexibility of policy with competitive pricing, both of which are vital in today’s market place. In these difficult economic times, the arrangement means we can provide wide cover to our brokers, at a competitive premium and give a better service.”

From March 2009, FarmWeb will be the provider of agricultural insurance facilities to some 3,500 farmers via a panel of 126 brokers.

Elaine Pyke, FarmWeb’s chief executive said: “This is FarmWeb’s first venture into Northern Ireland and we are keen to assist Longmynd in expanding their established connections. The expertise of their staff and knowledge of the farming sector means the business fits well with us and we look forward to working with their team”.

Ivan Campbell, commercial director of Campbell Autoline part of the Autoline Insurance Group said: “This is great news both for our business and for the agricultural sector generally. It means we have greater flexibility, can provide our customers with wider cover, better premiums and a better service, which has got to be good news, particularly in these turbulent economic times.”

Since 2002, FarmWeb’s policies have been provided on an exclusive basis through insurers NIG, part of The Royal Bank of Scotland. FarmWeb has current sales grossing over £30 million
