More than 50 insurers brave the high seas in AssurMada event
The Lloyd’s Building was one of the first ports of call for this year’s AssurMada sailing event, aimed at strengthening ties between Dutch and English insurers.
To mark the event, Markel hosted a tour of the iconic headquarters for more than 50 Dutch insurers.
AssurMada is a popular sailing fixture for the Dutch insurance industry. It was founded in the 1990s by claims specialist Aad Remkes at Aon Risk Solutions and his former colleague Jean van Oosterhuot, who now works in claims at AGS.
The aim of the event is to encourage communication across the European insurance market.
The boats set sail from Rotterdam early on Wednesday 6 June, crossing the North Sea in convoy and arriving in Ipswich marina, Suffolk, the following day, despite one of the vessels becoming separated en route due to rough weather conditions.
The visitors, including a number of representatives from Markel International Netherlands, travelled to London by train and were met at Lloyd’s by Markel, which hosted a tour of the building followed by a buffet lunch.
Markel director of international development Simon Wilson said “It’s a pleasure for us to play a part in this year’s AssurMada event, and we’re proud to host our Dutch colleagues and counterparts here in London. We hope that the trip will provide them with a good understanding of the close relationship we have with Lloyds and the London market.”
This year’s event finished in the Netherlands on Monday 11 June.
