RSA commercial managing director Jon Hancock will take on responsibility for managing RSA’s relationships with global insurance brokers after the departure of the existing global broker relationship head.

Derek Walsh, who also serves as group general counsel and company secretary, will leave at the end of February after five and a half years with the insurer.

Charlotte Heiss, currently head of group legal, has been named chief legal officer and company secretary, reporting to group chief executive Stephen Hester.

Group chief risk officer William McDonnell will assume responsibility for the insurer’s compliance function.

Hester said: “Derek has helped steer RSA through challenging times and has been a terrific adviser to the board and the company during the last five and a half years. We are grateful to him for his support and service. He will be missed and we wish him every success in the future.”

RSA chairman Martin Scicluna added: “On behalf of the Board I would like to thank Derek for his contribution and guidance since 2010. He has provided wise counsel to me and my colleagues on the Board and he leaves with our strong appreciation and gratitude.”

Separately, RSA has named Doug Stewart as chief risk officer for UK and western Europe.

He will join the company on 1 March 2016, reporting to McDonnell.

Stewart joins RSA from Deloitte, where he spent seven years as risk director for its financial services practice.

RSA UK and western Europe chief executive Steve Lewis said: “Doug is a great addition to the UK and western European team and I look forward to working with him to further strengthen RSA’s risk management capabilities.”

Stewart added: “I am delighted to be joining RSA at an exciting time in the transformation of its UK and western European businesses and I am looking forward to playing my part in its future success.”
