Premiums will rise for winter storms and summer droughts

Ireland’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has warned that climate change means homeowners face higher insurance premiums, the Irish Independent reports.

It warned:

  • Summer temperatures will increase the mortality rate among the elderly
  • Commuters will face heat stress while travelling to work
  • Farmers can expect lower crop and milk yields as animals and plants become stressed
  • Temperatures have increased by 0.7C since 1890, but more than half of this increase (0.4C) has happened since 1980
  • Ireland will be ravaged by winter storms and summer droughts

The research came from the EPA, Met Eireann, universities and research bodies.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
