The FSA's discussion paper does not make for good holiday reading

I should be away in the British Virgin Islands when this blog is published. I’ll be seeking to restore the work/life balance which is so important to get right.

It is not just a holiday of course. I will be yacht racing in two regattas and given a little peace in between events I will be contemplating what I want to highlight during my address at this year’s BIBA conference. A couple of rum punches will be just the inspiration I need.

Talking of inspiration I want to encourage all in our profession to respond to the FSA’s discussion paper on transparency, disclosure and conflicts of interests in the commercial insurance market which was issued last week.

I mentioned this document in a previous blog but will do so again as it is really important. BIBA will produce a detailed response to the paper but it needs everyone to write directly to Hector Sants at the FSA to ensure that we can get this issue moved forward and possibly even resolved.

I know it is a pain to have to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard in an email especially when busy, but whatever your views are everyone needs to do this so that the FSA can see the strength of feeling in our sector.

I have already had some members say to me that the FSA’s discussion paper has a bias towards mandating commission disclosure and having had a chance to read the paper I have to say that there are a number of areas that have sent my blood pressure skywards.

Give the paper a read – I guarantee that you will be inspired to respond to the FSA.
