Howden, the Lloyd’s broker specialising in business critical insurance, has announced it is building a team in London to further enhance its international reach and capabilities in medical malpractice, providing both wholesale and retail services to clients, specifically through Howden’s international offices.
Virginio Mercurio has been appointed a Director within Howden’s international division to build and lead this team.
Mercurio joins the London office from Howden’s Spanish operation, Howden Iberia, where he was previously a director responsible for consolidating the reinsurance book and establishing a wholesale capability.
A specialist in medical malpractice, he has over ten years' experience of the insurance industry in a number of international territories. He spent three years with Willis in the Global Markets International division developing the medical malpractice business across its European and Latin American markets.
Tim Coles, CEO of Howden in the UK, said: “There’s great potential in the medical malpractice arena, and having a specialist capability located in the London office will provide our international offices with access to first class insurance, knowledge and contacts to exploit the potential.
"As an international broker renowned for its fiercely independent and entrepreneurial spirit, and with offices in 11 countries around the world, it’s an exciting new development for Howden. Virginio has all the experience and contacts necessary to drive this enterprise forward, and we warmly welcome him to London.”
