Policy for qualified and trainee pilots was previously only available through brokers
Hiscox has launched a new direct website, offering loss of licence and training expenses insurance to trainee and qualified pilots.
Previously offered through brokers only, the policy will protect commercial pilots against the financial implications of losing their licence because of injury or illness.
It also includes a lump-sum benefit in the likelihood of a long-term unfitness assessment, or psychological, alcohol and drug-related illnesses occurring.
Additionally, trainee pilots can get protection against the possibility of incurring debt if they are unable to complete their course, or recover all or part of the fees as a result of accident or illness.
Hiscox UK chief underwriting officer Jo Musselle said: “We believe this website is the first of its kind for trainee and commercial pilots to buy cover online.
“The cover is designed to help alleviate some of the stress that comes from being unable to work due to injury and illness, providing peace of mind to many pilots across the world.”
