Former RSA boss joins team of three deputy chairmen on Council of Lloyd’s
Former RSA chief executive Andy Haste has been named a senior independent deputy chairman of the Council of Lloyd’s.
Haste’s three-year term will start tomorrow.
Haste will become one of three deputy chairmen on the council, which is responsible for the management and supervision of the Lloyd’s market.
He succeeds Andreas Prindl, who is retiring.
Haste was chief executive of RSA between 2003 and 2011, and is credited with turning the UK non-life insurer around.
There has been much speculation about where Haste would resurface following his departure from RSA last August. He had been tipped as a possible chairman of Direct Line Group, and was also rumoured to be heading up a private equity consortium looking to buy DLG.
Commenting on Haste’s appointment to the council, Lloyd’s chairman John Nelson said: “I am delighted that Andy will be joining the Council of Lloyd’s. He is a highly regarded leader in the UK insurance industry and his extensive experience in international financial services will be immensely valuable to Lloyd’s.”
Haste added: “I am very pleased to be joining the Council of Lloyd’s and continuing the great work of my predecessor. In Vision 2025, Lloyd’s has an exciting strategy for extending its brand in new international markets. I look forward to helping Lloyd’s position itself as the global centre for specialist insurance and reinsurance.”
