Cost of living survey finds Glasgow cheaper than other UK cities
More insurers could choose to expand into Scotland after a cost of living survey highlighted the low cost of living for expats in Glasgow.
The city, ranked 36th in the world, is much more affordable than other leading UK cities, according to the survey. carried out by Mercer. It looked at the cost of living in major expat destinations worldwide.
It found that Glasgow was significantly cheaper than London (2nd) and Dublin (16th) for a range of expenses; from property and travel to sundry living expenses.
Debbie Mackie, from the city's financial development unit, said: “The UK remains the world’s insurance hub. More and more companies are looking to combine a reduced cost based with an increased quality of life for their staff, and also want to maintain a UK presence.
"The research highlights the significant impact that location can have on quality of life and Glasgow is well placed to capitalise on this.”
Glasgow has attracted £750m investment and 13,000 job. Insurance companies located there include esure, Direct Line, Ace and CGNU.
