Cat and dog insurer petPals has designed a travel policy petsAbroad for pet owners planning one or more trips abroad a year.
The policy covers the costs of micro chipping, rabies vaccination (and annual booster), blood test as well as ticks and tapeworms treatment.
The cover costs £18.25 per month for cats and £21.75 for dogs when paying by direct debit. The policy features third-party claims at home and abroad of up to £1m.
Pet owners can take their pets on impromptu trips without the headache involved in the administration and provision of pet passports. If you choose to leave your pet a home while away, a special pet-sitting discount is built into petsAbroad cover.
The policy extends to mainland Europe only and pets are required to be under the age of ten when cover is first taken out.
The process of getting your pet covered takes about one month and a microchip needs to be inserted in the animal before vaccines and blood tests take place.
