Labour MP Frank Field is to speak at the CII's Breakthrough Lecture later this year.
CII director general Dr Sandy Scott said: "Frank Field was asked by Tony Blair to 'think the unthinkable' during his time as minister for welfare reform.
"He is therefore eminently qualified to deliver our breakthrough lecture. I am sure he will be thought-provoking and challenge conventional thinking."
The Breakthrough Lecture is held to galvanise alternative thinking and practices. This year's lecture will be held on November 15.
The lecture will be held at the CII's Insurance Hall at 12 noon on Friday 15 November.
