Fortis Insurance reported gross written premiums of £418m as part of its third quarter results, an 8% increase on the 2002 figure of £388m, said the insurer.
Fortis also reported a 56% increase in gross written premiums in the SME market, up to £29m from £18.6m for the same period in 2002.
Household gross written premiums increased by 14% to £70.8m for the quarter, said Fortis.
Premiums written for the travel market increased by 39% to £19.8m. Fortis chief executive Barry Smith attributed this gain to the win of the Post Office account earlier in the year.
Gross written premiums for the private motor market remained relatively stable at £291m for the quarter, compared with £287m for the same period in 2002.
Smith said: "Overall the results of the third quarter are very strong. Our strategy to enhance our product range and our continued commitment to serving the broker and intermediary market is clearly proving successful."
