The Financial Ombudsman published a consultation paper this week setting out proposals for extending its voluntary jurisdiction.
These proposals include greater jurisdiction over complaints about insurance intermediaries, before the Financial Services Authority (FSA) takes on responsibility for regulating these firms in 2004.
Under the new proposals, complaints about mortgage intermediaries and consumer credit firms, and about some firms in relation to events that happened before regulation by FSA, would come under its remit.
The organisation commented: "Our aim is to provide a one-stop service for financial complaints, so we are keen to extend the cover we offer by widening our "voluntary
jurisdiction", consistent with our ability to absorb the extra work."
