New name derived from ‘father of fire insurance’
Erinaceous Insurance Services Limited (EIS) is to change its name to Barbon Insurance Group
The property specialist broker said the rebrand was the first in a series of initiatives designed to enhance the organisation’s position in the sector.
The new name is derived from Dr Nicholas Barbon who is credited with being the ‘Father of Fire Insurance’ after introducing fire insurance for buildings to England after the Great Fire of London. He was also one of the major re-builders of the City, developing whole sections of London in both commercial and residential real estate.
In 1680 he was instrumental in forming the first fire insurance company to insure buildings, known as the Fire Office, located behind London’s Royal Exchange. His fire office formed the first Municipal London fire brigade.
Leslie Goodman, executive chairman of EIS said: “Dropping EIS and the negative connotations associated with it is a natural next step for the business. The name Barbon Insurance Group has positive historical value and further underlines our new independence, long term stability, and strong financial platform.”
He added: “In addition, the association with Dr Nicholas Barbon, who was widely considered cutting edge and ahead of his time, reflects our brands’ leading market positions and unrivalled reputations for delivering innovative, best of breed insurance and risk management solutions to their target sectors.”
EIS brands include Keelan Westall, Cadogan Keelan Westall, Deacon, Cadogan Hanover Park (SaifInsure, Truckinsure, Plastech, Performance Media), BIBALet, HomeLet, Letsure, CareAssured and Farr.
The re-brand is set to come into effect during August 2008
