Uk rugby club Saracens is set to ask the European courts to intervene if the club's compensation claim against the French Rugby Federation (FRF) for the loss of Thomas Castaignede's services is not resolved within the next month.

Castaignede, who signed for Saracens 12 months ago, ruptured his Achilles' tendon warming up for France's game against Australia last November. He is still injured and not likely to play until after the new year.

The FRF, which has refused to accept liability, could face a claim for £400,000 by the time he plays again.

Earlier this week, the British and Irish Lions agreed to a £250,000 pay-out to Wasps for the knee injury incurred by Lawrence Dallaglio while on Lions duty.
