Former MMC MD Macfarlane steps up

Chartis has appointed Tom Macfarlane as the UK head of energy.

Macfarlane will report to executive director of commercial lines UK Jacqueline McNamee and senior vice-president and head of Europe energy and property Alf Muller.

“Tom’s breadth of experience in insurance, together with more than twenty years of focus in the energy sector, makes him the ideal appointment to deliver continued sustainable, profitable growth for one of Chartis’ most dynamic, market-leading underwriting portfolios,” McNamee said.

Macfarlane was most recently a senior vice-president in the global energy team at Chartis. He joined the company in 2009 as an oil and petrochemical underwriter and subsequently transferred to New York to work in the global energy division. He started work at CT Bowring in 1974 and then, following a takeover, as a managing director within the energy division of Marsh and McLennan.

Macfarlane replaces Chris Waterman who has taken up the position of ‘property executive for Far East’, based in Japan.
