CDL founder Tom Hogg becomes group chairman

Guy Johnson

Software provider CDL has appointed Gary Johnson as group managing director.

Johnson has spent 25 years with the company, most recently holding the position of head of its customer services operation.

The appointment comes as Tom Hogg, who founded the company in 1977, moves up to become group chairman.

Hogg said: “While I will continue to maintain a strategic overview of the business and play an active role in CDL’s development as group chairman, I am confident that Gary, with his knowledge of our solutions, clients and people, has the commercial acumen, drive and commitment to help CDL achieve even more in the future. His appointment will, I believe, offer the best combination of continuity and new energy going forward.”

Johnson has held several roles across the organisation. As head of customer services, he managed key client relationships, including Tesco Bank and Hastings Direct.

Johnson said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the group MD role in what is a time of significant expansion for CDL. Going forward, we will maintain our focus on providing solutions and services that exceed the expectations of our current and future customers. Our continued investment in exceptional technology and human resources is a significant demonstration of our ambition.”

One of Johnson’s first jobs will be to oversee the building of a new office building to house the company’s expanding workforce on land adjacent to CDL’s Strata House headquarters that it acquired at the end of 2012. The company current employs more than 450 staff, and anticipates that a further 150 IT jobs will be created by 2015.
