Northampton-based brewery Carlsberg-Tetley is running a driver risk assesment programme with the aim of cutting fleet insurance costs by 25% over two years.
The company will put around 2000 drivers through the Driver Assessment Training Aid (DATA) programme, a scheme developed by DATA Programmes Ltd and sold via its partner DriveTech.
The assessment consists of asking employees a series of questions, and then training solutions needed are recommended and implemented.
DriveTech is working with Carlsberg-Tetley in conjunction with Marsh, the company which originally introduced the two parties.
The group risk manager, Tim Proctor, said: "Faced with mounting insurance costs we were anxious to reduce liabilities in relation to our fleet. Previously we didn't undertake any risk assessment of our drivers although we undertake risk assessments in other parts of our business."
Chief executive Colin Povey added that accident costs were at an unacceptable level so it was the company's obligation to reduce them as much as possible.
The assessment costs £29.95 per person.
