Capita Insurance Services has launched the second phase of its insurance outsourcing contract to deliver Abbey National's general insurance products.

It has extended the online 'quote and buy¹ facility, which allows customers to select their insurer of choice from a panel of seven providers.

The insurance outsourcing contract, worth £330 million over ten years, started in January 2001. Under the first phase of the contract, Capita took over the administration of all active policies and initial registration of associated claims, as well as establishing an online quote and buy facility for household insurance at www.abbeynational.co.uk. Under phase two, Capita has extended this facility to motor insurance as well as to the Abbey National Telesales Unit in Liverpool. A panel of insurers has been established to provide competitive
premiums according to customer requirements. The panel includes AXA, Groupama, Fortis, Equity Red Star, Link, Hastings Direct and MMA.

Head of insurance marketing at Abbey National John Grimbaldeston said the development was part of Abbey National's commitment to grow the general insurance business by 40% over three years. " We are delighted to be
breaking the mould of the traditional bancassurer/product provider model. We're delivering real customer choice and value, along with excellent service and efficiency levels."
