Congregational & General Insurance (C&G) said it was in final negotiations with NIG over the sale of the renewal rights for its general commercial book of business.
C&G said it wished to concentrate on developing its personal and church business lines, although it will continue to underwrite commercial policies related to its church book.
The transfer of business is due to take place on 1 July 2004.
C&G managing director Keith Charlton said: “We have ambitious growth plans for our personal and church business lines, and to achieve these we must concentrate our resources and capital accordingly.
“Although profitable, the proportion of our commercial business has significantly reduced, as our home and church books have grown. Indeed, we are writing record levels of home business, especially via EDI.
“Our commitment to the intermediary market is as strong as ever and we are currently in the process of discussing our plans with our key brokers.”
