UK retail boss hands in notice four months after appointment
Brendan McManus has resigned as CEO of UK retail at Arthur J Gallagher and will leave in January 2015.
The former Giles cheif executive was appointed in November, following Gallagher’s £233m takeover of the retail broker.
Gallagher said McManus would leave after the major work to integrate Giles had been completed.
McManus said: “This has not been an easy decision to make but, after 35 challenging yet rewarding years working across a diverse range of insurance organisations, now is the right time to start making plans to tackle unfulfilled aspirations elsewhere.
“I thoroughly enjoyed working with the great team at Giles, building and shaping a fantastic business, and always knew Arthur J Gallagher would prove the best possible destination for the people and their businesses. My time leading the enlarged UK Retail division here at Arthur J Gallagher has only confirmed that and it feels good to have delivered such a great home for the Giles people.
Arthur J Gallagher International chief executive David Ross added: “Brendan was not only instrumental in transforming Giles but bringing it into the Gallagher family, with a strong vision for the UK Retail powerhouse this would create. He is an immensely well-regarded and influential market figure, with an integrity and leadership style that I both value and admire, which will be sorely missed.
“Having said that, I wholly respect Brendan’s decision to prioritise his personal ambitions - and for giving us ample time to plan for a successful succession of leadership for our fast-growing UK Retail business.”
