Ex-Groupama claims director seconded to fraud-fighting unit
Ex-Groupama claims director Phil Bird has been appointed to head the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) on a six-month secondment.
Bird, who was appointed as head of customer services at the Motor Insurance Bureau last year, has been overseeing the day-to-day operations of the IFB since ex-director Glen Marr’s departure in December.
From the beginning of next month (February), he will undertake the IFB director duties in a full-time capacity, reporting to the supervisory board that holds its first meeting in February.
The board will consider the responsibilities and requirements of the IFB director role during Bird’s six-month secondment.
Commenting on Bird’s appointment, IFB supervisory board chairman David Neave said: “Phil will work closely with the new members of the IFB supervisory and technical boards to build their familiarity with the IFB’s operations. This will ensure that the strategy is rolled out as planned and that the investment is delivering the fraud detection services required by the industry.
“These changes will realise fraud savings of £60m over a three-year period, representing a significant increase on current reported savings.”
Bird left Groupama almost exactly a year ago following what the company described as a restructure of its claims operations to reflect the split between its commercial and personal lines businesses.
Marr left the IFB to take up the post of director of fraud at insurer First Central.
