North-East broker BiB Group has purchased Scanlan Insurance Services.

Scanlan is based in the North Yorkshire town of Bedale and the acquisition represents a return to its roots for BiB, which was formerly known as Bedale Insurance Brokers.

BiB managing director, Martin Littleton, commented: “We operated very successfully in Bedale in the 1980s serving the full range of rural businesses, not just farms but also pubs, hotels, builders, garages and shops, as well as private clients.

“We moved to Darlington for its bigger employment market so we could grow the business and establish our underwriting division. But we've never forgotten our roots or the importance of our rural communities.

“Consolidation in many sectors has seen businesses disappear from the market places. But the continued success and market penetration of Scanlan Insurance in Bedale proves that the desire for personal, local service where customers can talk face to face remains. It is a model we could replicate across the region.”

Mike, Gay and David Scanlan will all remain with the business.
