Aviva has decided to cut its panel of legal providers, appointing just eight law firms.

The insurer also appointed a further 13 companies for specialist work.

The eight main providers appointed to the panel are Allen & Overy, Slaughter & May, Ashurst, DLA Piper, Latham & Watkins, Linklaters, Addleshaw Goddard and Pinsent Masons.

Aviva required firms to cut their standard rates by at least 15% to guarantee a place on the panel, and one firm is said to have reduced its fees by as much as 40%, according to the Lawyer.
