International claims manager Van Ameyde & Wallis has acquired medical assistance specialist International Medical Rescue (IMR) from Aon Travel Solutions.

The deal went through for an undisclosed sum.

The company will operate IMR alongside its existing medical assistance company, Voyagers Assistance. IMR will continue to operate from its Croydon premises. As part of the deal, over 60 IMR staff have transferred to Van Ameyde & Wallis.

IMR is an established provider of international medical assistance for policyholders ranging from obtaining local treatment to emergency repatriation.

The company was founded in 1986 and purchased by Aon Travel Solutions in 1998.

Aon Risk Services chief executive officer Philip Gore-Randall, said: “This sale is consistent with our global strategy of exiting non-core businesses, to focus on our core businesses of insurance broking, risk management and human capital consulting.
