New car policy to help with carbon targets
Allianz Insurance is aiming to slash its CO2 emissions by up to 25 per cent by 2012.
Allianz Insurance will introduce an updated company car policy aimed at providing a more efficient and economical fleet of vehicles for employees to carry out their duties.
The new policy follows last month’s announcement that the UK has become the first country to commit itself to a legally binding CO2 emissions reduction target of at least 26% by 2020. The Climate Change Act also binds the UK to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 80% by 2050.
Richard Foulerton, CSR manager, Allianz Insurance, said: “At Allianz, we fully understand the importance of reducing our environmental impact. We estimate that our new company car fleet will help reduce the current CO2 emissions of our workforce by up to 13 per cent each year, in addition to the savings in road tax and fuel costs to both users and the Company.“
He added: “The lower emissions of our new company vehicle fleet will help us to meet both our internal target of a 25% CO2 reduction by 2012, and will contribute towards those set nationally by the Climate Change Act.”
