Allianz Cornhill has implemented a new IT system which allows claims handlers to work in a paperless environment.
The company said the 'PUMA' image and workflow system scans claims documents and stores the data on a system available to everyone involved in the claims handling process.
Work will be distributed to the right claims handler for the job and relevant information will always be available to ensure that telephone enquiries are dealt with as quickly as possible.
Allianz Cornhill said the system will allow it to provide the best possible service to customers, while at the same time helping to reduce claims costs.
Allianz Cornhill worked with Capgemini to implement the system, which uses FileNet P8 technology.
PUMA will initially be used in the handling of motor damage claims at the company's claims handling centre in Milton Keynes. The system will be rolled out to motor claims handlers in Birmingham, Bristol and Woking later in 2007.
Paul Kassell, Allianz Cornhill senior IT manager, said: "This system enables efficient distribution and management of work, enabling the handling of peaks and troughs by moving work seamlessly between locations. At the same time it provides comprehensive management information on what the state of work is at any point in time."
Jon Dye, Allianz Cornhill director of claims, added: "PUMA represents a major step forward in the technology that we are using to handle claims at Allianz Cornhill, opening up a whole range of new possibilities in the services that we offer to our customers from across our claims network.
"This is a major investment that will deliver significant benefits to our customers, our employees and our shareholders.'
