One in five over 65-year-olds cannot get a quote for motor or travel insurance, according to a report this morning.
Research published by Age Concern and Help the Aged revealed that the over-65s face huge problems buying motor and travel insurance.
The position gets worse further at 75, where a quarter of applicants are turned down.
The ABI has launched a new initiative aimed at combating the problem. It is co-ordinating a task force to work towards making insurance more widely available and better value for money.
Malcolm Tarling, spokesman for the ABI, said: "We acknowledge that some elderly customers may experience difficulties buying insurance because most companies operate upper-age limits for new customers. But cover is available if you know where to go."
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
