Trade body praises insurer reaction to riots
The ABI has defended the insurer response to the UK rioting after an independent report published yesterday blasted the industry for its alleged slow reaction.
The report also said insurers had focused on larger companies’ claims rather than the claims from smaller businesses.
An ABI spokesman said: “We do not accept that insurers have not performed well in response to the August riots.
“Larger more complex claims inevitably take time to settle, particularly if whole streets are destroyed, and reconstruction has to be done alongside local authorities. But long after the media have left, insurers continue to work around the clock to help those most badly hit recover.
“Where any problems arise, insurers will deal with them as quickly as possible, and the ABI is keen to talk to MPs and other groups to resolve any issues.”
The report, called ‘5 days in August,’ was produced by the Riots Communities and Victims Panel.
