The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has commissioned a study from researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University into the emergence and management of e-risk.

The team from the department of Risk and Financial Services will be investigating e-commerce risks faced by private sector companies, and the best ways of tackling these.

The head of research at the ABI, Richard Taylor, said: "New technologies bring new risks with them. The insurance industry has a clear interest in improving risk management in British companies. This applies now to the world of e-commerce and information technology as it does to so many other areas of business.

"Many businesses are unaware of the potential problems, or how to manage, this emerging risk. This research should help them do that."

The research is being supported by the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) and the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers in Industry and Commerce (AIRMIC).
