XL Capital said its exposure to claims arising from Hurricane Charley was expected to be approximately $125m, based on initial loss reports and preliminary estimates.

The majority of XL's claims were expected to come from its Bermuda-based reinsurance unit, said the company.

“The financial impact of the hurricane related claims will adversely affect XL's third quarter results but will not materially affect the company's overall financial condition,” it said.
