Ex-Zurich exec David Martin named broker’s new UK retail chief
Willis has hired former Zurich executive David Martin as UK retail chief executive, replacing Dan Wilkinson (pictured).
Wilkinson announced his departure from Willis on 4 December to become mid-market regions director at insurer RSA. His exit ended an 18-year stretch working for the broker.
Martin will take up his new role on 21 January and report to Willis International chief executive Tim Wright.He will have a secondary reporting line to Willis Group deputy chief executive Steve Hearn.
Willis said Wright and Hearn have directed Martin to drive greater connectivity between Willis UK Retail and Willis Global, the specialist business arm of the Willis Group, both of which are headquartered in London.
The broker added that Martin’s appointment completes the restructure of Willis International’s leadership under Wright.
Martin was previously head of global sales and distribution for Zurich’s general insurance business. His previous roles include 16 years at global broker Aon, where he was managing director of UK corporate, as well as positions at Bank of America and health insurer Cigna (now part of the ACE group).
Wright said: “David’s extensive knowledge of commercial insurance markets in the UK and his wider global experience makes him the ideal candidate to accelerate future sales growth within our UK retail business.
“We recognise that there is a significant opportunity to drive synergies between our UK retail and global specialty business, and David will have a special focus on matching UK client needs with Willis’ world-class specialty expertise.”
