Beyond June 30th 2013, no one is really sure how flood cover will be provided for those properties most at risk in the UK.
The ABI has had extensive talks with the Treasury and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to agree a replacement to the current Statement of Principles, though no firm agreement has been reached.
The statement guarantees that insurers will provide affordable flood cover for homes and small businesses provided that the government spends money on building flood defences.
All parties say they want to keep flood insurance affordable and available to all, yet with the 30 June deadline to replace the deal now looming, the opposite scenario is becoming more likely.
