An underwriting agency, backed by a Lloyd's syndicate is now providing full terrorism cover.

The scheme, operated by Beech Underwriting Agencies, can provide up to £5m all risks cover for terrorism losses on both commercial and domestic household policies.

Beech Underwriting managing director Geoff Stilwell says insurers have now started to exclude terrorism risks from their household policies, in addition to their commercial policies.

Stilwell says he is surprised by the way that some household insurers have notified their clients of the changes.

In the case of one insurer, the new exclusion was hidden in the renewal document with no attempt to draw attention to it, he said.

"People are used to having all-encompassing cover," said Stilwell. "Some insurers are trying to reduce cover without people knowing. The market deserves to know."

The commercial property product offered by Beech is aimed at SMEs, and can accommodate multi-line risks and portfolio risks.

Premiums start at £50 for the commercial product and £30 for the household product.

Geoff Stilwell said: "We are the only people able to offer this product. We have no issues regarding premium capacity."
