Catlin has swung behind UK General by agreeing to provide capacity for high risk product liability insurance.
The capacity will back UK General’s commercial broker panel from the beginning of July.
The arrangement is open-ended and sits alongside UK General’s existing capacity agreement with Ageas.
Catlin will also provide capacity for Leeds-based UK General to access Catlin’s ‘Cargo’ product set, including transit, exhibitions, and stock throughput products.
Catlin is making a concerted effort to reach out to regional brokers by backing managing general agencies (MGA) with capacity.
Earlier this week Catlin agreed to back Aro Underwriting with capacity
The MGA, which offers regional brokers affinity and schemes access, is headed by James Bright.
UK General’s technical director Karen Smith said UK General will be offering insurance for high risk product manufacturing, including safety critical, automotive, petrochemicals, medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
“This deal means we can offer a wider underwriting footprint to our brokers, as well as being able to write more property business on the back of this arrangement," she said.
“UK General will be able to offer a full product solution to brokers, as opposed to brokers having to place property and liability separately. We’re delighted to be able to offer these new facilities for our brokers and give them access to a market they may not have been able to exploit previously.”
On Cargo, she said: “We now have the ability to offer a more complete insurance solution for the risks we want to write, on a ‘one-stop-shop’ basis. For brokers, we are confident they will welcome the opportunity to place more parts of their client’s requirements with one call and be able to consolidate their Cargo books to one supplier.
Karen said the products will be available to all UK General’s brokers but will be marketed through a phased roll out, initially to the panel of brokers who have development deals with UK General.
Catlin have provided product training to UK General’s underwriters and business development managers.
Smith added that discussions have already started between Catlin and UK General on additional products, initially around product recall for food and drink risks.
“We are really pleased with this opportunity to extend our product footprint into the commercial space, and look forward to building a productive relationship with Catlin, just as we have with Ageas, our other major capacity provider," she said.
