Paul Jewell joins Towergate Underwriting in newly created role
Towergate Underwriting has hired former AIG underwriter Paul Jewell to the newly created position of chief underwriting officer.
He will report to the Towergate-owned MGA’s chief executive Clive Nathan.
In his new role, Jewell will have management responsibility for a number of areas including technical underwriting, claims, product development and pricing.
Before joining Towergate Underwriting, Jewell spent 11 years at insurer AIG. His most recent role there was chief underwriting officer for AIG Global Small and Medium Enterprises, where he was responsible for over 600 underwriters writing $1.8bn (£1.1bn) of gross written premium globally.
He started his career as a commercial lines underwriter with RSA before moving into senior management positions with Independent Insurance and accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Jewell said: “Towergate has developed a leading underwriting proposition in the market by delivering great products and service to its broker base.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Clive and the management team to further Towergate’s market leading position.
“My goal will be to enhance the value proposition for brokers and to drive profitable growth through the development of an underwriting excellence framework.”
Nathan added: “Paul is a great addition to our senior team and he has an accomplished background which spans underwriting strategy, risk management, talent development and broker relations.
“Paul brings invaluable experience to Towergate and he will be instrumental in driving our underwriting initiatives, spearheading the use of data and predictive modelling, driving product innovation and the delivery of a fast, fair and friendly claims service.”
