Towergate has made a raft of hires into its Lloyd’s of London wholesale and retail advisory teams based in the City of London.

Richard Morgan has been appointed as sales and service director for a newly established City Branch within the Towergate Insurance Brokers (TIB) division.

Towergate announced earlier this month that it would restructure its regional management areas and move its Towergate London Market arm into its broking division TIB.

The City team will focus on servicing UK Corporate businesses turning over £15m-£500m.

Morgan joins Towergate from Willis, where he was development director for five years.

Prior to this, he was vice-president at Marsh from 2005 to 2010.

Morgan said: “There is a real opportunity to establish, shape and grow a market leading client service team for Towergate in the heart of London.

“We plan to build a dynamic team and have started in earnest looking for driven account and development executives who recognise that this is the chance to start something special, with the backing of a sure footed and confident Towergate.”

Morgan will report to David Armstrong, area director London South, as part of the London regional team, which now reports to Russell Collier.

• Tim Simpson-Lee and Richard Turner are joining Towergate London Market, the wholesale business dealing primarily with placement into Lloyd’s of London.

Simpson-Lee joins Towergate from the underwriting management team at QBE having formerly held underwriting positions within Lloyd’s.

Prior to that, he worked at Windsor Insurance Brokers and Jelf.

Turner was previously at Allied World Assurance Company (Europe) Ltd as assistant underwriter.

Towergate advisory chief executive Joe Thelwell said: “We have attracted some serious talent in Richard Morgan, Tim Simpson-Lee and Richard Turner, who are all well established and reputable brokers in their respective fields.

“We are very much looking to build upon their appointments by growing both teams and capability in line with our ambitions to make a serious impact in the London region.

“This is an exciting time for both our retail and wholesale operations as we continue to build on a restored confidence in Towergate.”
